Do I need to be in shape or strong to start BJJ?
Absolutely not! BJJ is specifically designed so that a smaller, weaker person can defeat a larger opponent using leverage. You don’t need to be fit to start; getting you fit is our job. You will build incredible stamina and core strength simply by attending class.
Do I need to buy a uniform (Gi) right away?
For your free trial, comfortable workout gear (like a tight-fitting t-shirt or rash guard and athletic shorts with no zippers) is perfect. Once you fall in love with the sport and join the team, we will guide you on getting your official BJJ Gi.
Am I going to get hurt? Is sparring (rolling) mandatory?
Safety is our highest priority. You will learn fundamental movements, positional control, and escapes long before you engage in live “rolling” (sparring). BJJ is unique because you can safely practice at 100% speed by simply “tapping out” when caught. Our ego-free culture ensures you learn safely at your own pace.
